Goa Khabar : Dr. Sneha Bhagwat has strongly criticised the politicisation of Yoga . These are Initiatives related to students’ well-being and public health. In a statement, she said it is “sad and unfortunate” that an initiative aimed at promoting health and wellness is being viewed through political and religious lenses.
Highlighting the global acceptance of Yoga, Dr. Bhagwat pointed out that more than 193 countries have embraced the practice and that hundreds of research studies have demonstrated its benefits for physical, mental, and emotional well-being. She stated that even 20 minutes of daily Yoga can significantly improve quality of life and contribute to the prevention of various health conditions.
She expressed concern that some individuals are associating Yoga with religion, politics, or other unrelated issues, despite its universal recognition as a valuable contribution to global health. According to her, several countries have repeatedly acknowledged Yoga as India’s gift to the world.
Dr. Bhagwat also clarified that the government circular regarding Yoga participation does not make attendance at a specific school compulsory. Instead, it encourages students to participate in Yoga sessions at any convenient location nearby, with the objective of fostering healthy habits and physical fitness.
Emphasising the importance of personal health, she remarked that no external support system can compensate for an unhealthy lifestyle if individuals themselves neglect their well-being. She urged political leaders and public figures to allow people, especially students, to adopt healthy habits and benefit from Yoga without turning the issue into a political debate.
Dr. Bhagwat concluded by appealing for greater focus on public health and wellness, stating that there are many other issues available for political discourse, while initiatives promoting healthy living should be encouraged and supported.
