Goa Tourism, Aguad Port & Jail Complex join hands to promote Heritage Tourism during the Monsoon

~ The joint initiative invites travellers and locals to discover four centuries of history amid Goa’s dramatic monsoon landscape.

Goa Khabar : The iconic seaward Aguad ramparts of Sinquerim, one of Goa’s most recognisable seaside sentinels, will now anchor the state’s coastal heritage tourism efforts through a joint initiative between Goa Tourism and the Aguad Port & Jail Complex. The association aims to promote heritage tourism during the monsoon season and encourage travellers to experience Goa beyond its beaches by exploring its rich history, architecture and cultural legacy.

Running until September 30, the initiative forms part of Goa Tourism’s wider monsoon tourism campaign in collaboration with tourism stakeholders across the state. It invites visitors to discover one of Goa’s most significant heritage landmarks at a time when the rain-soaked landscape offers a unique perspective of the historic structure overlooking the Arabian Sea.

As part of the initiative, the Sinquerim-based Aguad Port & Jail Complex has curated a series of heritage-led experiences that allow visitors to engage with the site’s four centuries of history. These include guided heritage walks led by expert storytellers, access to the Aguad Interactive Museum, and experiences that combine heritage exploration with the location’s hospitality offerings.

Speaking about the initiative, Savio Mathias, Vice President, Operations and Business Development, Aguad Port & Jail Complex, said, “The monsoon reveals a completely different character of Aguad. The fortifications, the sea and the surrounding landscape come alive in a way that visitors rarely experience during the rest of the year. Through our collaboration with Goa Tourism, we hope to inspire both visitors and residents to rediscover Goa’s remarkable heritage and appreciate the stories that have shaped this iconic landmark for over four centuries.”

Open daily from 10 am to 8 pm, the restored heritage complex has evolved into a cultural destination where visitors can experience history, museums, and dining in a single location. During the monsoon months, the dramatic coastline, lush surroundings and rain-washed fortifications create an immersive backdrop that showcases a different side of Goa’s heritage.

As part of the campaign, visitors are encouraged to plan their visit in advance, particularly for guided heritage walks and weekend visits. The last heritage walk begins at 6 pm.
