Goa Khabar:The Aam Aadmi Party today boycotted the address by Hon’ble Speaker of Lok Sabha Shri Om Birla to the legislators of the Goa Assembly at Porvorim.
Benaulim MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas slammed the BJP for ignoring the pressing issues of the day such as the protest by our Olympic wrestlers against sexual harassment by a BJP MP, and the violence in Manipur where churches have been targeted. Viegas also slammed the Pramod Sawant Govt for not acting on any of the assurances made by the Govt to legislators. Viegas said the AAP MLAs decided not to be part of such ceremonial events while the BJP has been creating havoc across the nation.
Velim MLA Eng Cruz Silva also criticized the event, stating that the BJP-nominated Speakers of both the Lok Sabha and Goa Assembly should look at their own conduct before trying to preach to others. Recalling that the farmers laws were pushed through Lok Sabha without a vote despite vociferous protests by the opposition, Silva drew a parallel with the Agriculture bill passed in haste in the last assembly session. He stated that BJP should not preach democracy to other parties when it has show itself to be the most anti-democratic, anti-constitutional, and anti-people.
President Adv. Amit Palekar criticized the BJP for doing only event management while Goans were struggling with price rise, unemployment, power cuts, water shortages, smart city scams etc.
