Goa khabar:India’s first female IBA ITO, Danuska Da Gama, appointed as Vice Chair of IBA Competitions Committee
Panjim 8th April, 2023: Goa’s Danuska Da Gama has been appointed as the new Vice Chair of the Competitions Committee of the International Boxing Association (IBA). Her passion for boxing is reflected in her impressive achievements, which include being a certified IBA 3-Star Coach and now serving as the Vice Chair of the Competitions Committee.
“I am ready to take on this new role as Vice Chair of the IBA Competitions Committee and look forward to contributing my expertise to the growth and development of boxing internationally.”
Danuska’s commitment to boxing goes beyond her own personal achievements. She has also been actively involved in training and mentoring young boxers in Goa, helping to groom the next generation of boxers in the state and India. As the treasurer (ex secretary general) of the Goa Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) and the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), she has been actively involved in promoting and developing the sport on various levels.

The Competitions Committee of IBA is responsible for various tasks related to the development and regulation of boxing competitions. These tasks include developing technical and competition rules, proposing new rules and amendments, implementing scoring systems, proposing competition schedules, reviewing sporting aspects, proposing new competition formats, encouraging the development of IBA competitions, dealing with equipment and competition uniform issues, helping to implement management systems, and participating in the appointment of competition officials.
Other members in the committee include the Chair, Omar Aljabri from UAE as well as representatives from French Polynesia, Australia, Barbados, Slovenia, South Africa, Morocco, and Germany.
Incidentally, Lenny D’Gama, has been re-appointed as a member of the Referee Judges Commission of IBA. With this, the father-daughter duo are the only Indian’s serving in the IBA technical committees.
President of Boxing Federation of India, Ajay Singh has been appointed as Board Member of IBA.
“Having Indian representation at IBA only shows that we Indian boxing has attained success and is an important country for boxing in the world. And now our importance has been duly recognises with these appointments,” Danuska says.
Recently, she was appointed as member of the Technical Committee of the International Schools Federation for Boxing.
Danuska has to a credit a number of boxing championships organised in the state, and is a national technical official in India. At present her focus in Goa is to build a strong side for the National Games. Besides, she hopes she can’t contribute to the organisation of the games, having sufficient understanding of sports management and technical conduct. “I am more than willing to work with the Government of Goa in the forthcoming National Games and urge the state government to give me the opportunity to make this edition of the games a success. We have talented, technically sound, and experienced personnel here who can be a great asset for the sports department,” she says.
