Goa Khabar: The water quality at the Sports Authority of Goa’s (SAG) Margao swimming pool at
the Fatorda sports complex has improved significantly over the last one week. The water appears
blue and is crystal clear as the latest, accompanying photograph shot on Saturday indicates ( see
pix).
It may recalled that the water quality had deteriorated badly going from light blue to dark green
and stayed the same for three, full weeks recently, leading to complaints from regular swimmers
in Margao which had resulted in reports appearing in the Goan media.

Nitin Gaonkar, SAG’s Margao pool manager admitted that they were using locally manufactured
electric panels to run the newly installed filtration plant. “Three, consecutive, locally
manufactured electric panels burnt down, leading to the non-functioning of the filtration plant.
This caused the water quality to deteriorate. It is only after we installed a reputed, branded
electrical panel, did the filtration plant start functioning properly once again and the water
quality has improved,” Gaonkar said.
The regular swimmers are understandably happy. Said Curtorim based businessman Angelo
Baretto, “Fortunately a vast section of the Goan media reported the pathetic condition of the pool
which prompted SAG to pull up its socks and take corrective measures. The water is now crystal
clear and it is a pleasure to swim.”
Margao based real estate developer, Madhav Talak said, “Our concern about the quality of water
was heard and immediate action was taken by the pool authorities. We hope they maintain the
quality.”
While, Benaulim based swim coach, Tony Fernandes said, “The quality of the swimming pool
water has been brilliant for the last one week.”
