Goa Khabar: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Working President Sunil Kawthankar has strongly condemned the alleged manhandling of girl student Amreen Shaikh by Goa Police, reportedly resulting in her clothes being torn. He demanded a thorough inquiry into the incident and strict action against those responsible.

In a post on X, Kawthankar expressed serious concern over the allegations, particularly as the incident was reported on the first day of Navratri, a festival celebrating Goddess Durga as a symbol of feminine power.

He questioned the contradiction between worshipping goddesses and allegedly failing to protect the dignity of women in everyday life.

“Respecting women cannot be confined to worshipping goddesses while failing to protect the dignity of women in real life,” Kawthankar stated.

The Congress leader also criticised the BJP, accusing the party of fostering a culture of disrespect towards women. He demanded that Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant respond to the serious allegations concerning the conduct of Goa Police.

Kawthankar emphasised that every woman deserves dignity, respect and protection, and that there should be absolutely no compromise when it comes to women’s dignity.

Calling for accountability, he demanded a comprehensive investigation into the alleged incident and appropriate action against those found responsible.

The allegations were made in Kawthankar’s social media post. The circumstances of the alleged incident and any official response from Goa Police have not been independently verified.
