Goa Khabar : Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Wednesday urged Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr. Ganesh Gaonkar to consider “The Goa Protection of Agricultural Lands Act, 2026” Bill moved by him, along with debate on issue of MLA Viresh Borkar, who was inhumanly dragged by Police officials.
Alemao was speaking to media persons after attending Business Advisory Committee Meeting at Assembly Complex-Porvorim.
“I have moved ‘The Goa Protection of Agricultural Lands Act, 2026’ to safeguard the lands under Agriculture or reserved for Agriculture. I hope it will be introduced, considered and passed unanimously in the House during the forthcoming Assembly Session. I hope even ruling party members, if they wish to protect our Agriculture land and our heritage’ should support this Bill,” Alemao said.
“”Today the police officials are acting like ‘Street Gundas’. Such mentality is dangerous for society. Goa has seen how MLA Viresh Borkar was dragged inhumanly by police officials. There should be stern action against them and hence I have demanded to discuss this issue in the Assembly session,” he said.
He said that decorum of the Assembly House should be protected. “In the last Assembly Session Minister for TCP Vishwajit Rane made an offensive hand gesture while addressing the Speaker. The people of the state, after noticing these gestures, expressed their anger. Subsequently, on January 26, 2026, I wrote to Speaker demanding disciplinary measures in response to the offensive hand gesture displayed by him. However, no reply from your office has been received,” Alemao lamented, demanding action in this matter.
Alemao said that he has urged Speaker to give sufficient time to opposition MLAs to raise their questions and issues related to the state. “Assembly House is the best platform where we can raise peoples voice and resolve the issues. But this Government is avoiding to speak on pressing issues. I hope at least this session we are allowed to speak,” Alemao said.
