An 18-year-old youth from Manipur was swept away by the rough seas off Candolim beach

Goa Khabar:An 18-year-old youth from Manipur was swept away by the rough seas off Candolim beach in the early hours of the morning when he ventured into the rough choppy sea reportedly in an intoxicated state. 

The incident occurred before lifesavers begin patrolling the beach at 7:00 am

At 7:00 am, a beachgoer informed a lifesaver about a dead body on the beach. The lifesaver immediately relayed the information to the nearby lifesaver tower and rushed to the spot. Police and the medical personnel, who had been informed about the incident by the victim’s friends, had arrived at the spot.

It was later learnt  that the victim had visited the beach and waded into the water at around 6:15 am. It was also informed that the victim was under the influence of alcohol and had entered the water despite his friends’ cautions to not enter the sea.

Drishti Marine reiterates that the sea remains off-limits for swimming during the ongoing monsoon season. Sea conditions remain rough during the monsoons, with unpredictable currents that make entering the water unsafe at all times, particularly outside of designated supervised hours.
