Cyber cell holds coordination meeting with Bank Officials on cyber frauds

Goa Khabar : To improve state’s preparedness to deal with cyber crime, the Cyber Crime Police Station today convened a coordination meeting with senior officials from various public and private sector banks. The meeting was attended by Managers, Senior Managers, and Regional Managers representing multiple banks operating across the state.

The objective of the meeting was to enhance coordination between banks and law enforcement agencies for faster response and prevention of cyber crimes, especially those targeting bank customers.

Key issues as per the pre-circulated agenda were discussed in detail, including:

• Timely sharing of fraud transaction details and freezing of suspect accounts.

• Proper verification of KYC details, by verifying identity, biometrics, background etc. of the account holders to avoid opening of Mule accounts.

• Assisting and flagging transactions made by the distressed/confused senior citizens to avoid cyber frauds against them such as Digital arrest or investment frauds.

• Strengthening internal bank protocols for red flagging suspicious transactions.

• Educating front-line banking staff to identify and alert customers about common cyber frauds such as phishing, vishing, OTP frauds, UPI scams, Digital arrest, insurance scam and remote access frauds.

• identification and timely action against mule accounts

• The importance of spreading public awareness among bank customers through awareness campaigns.

• dedicated combined campaigns during Cyber Surakshta weeks

• Cooperation in ongoing investigations and recovery efforts related to cyber frauds.

IGP K. R. Chaurasia, IPS, SP Crime & Cyber Rahul Gupta, IPS and PI Deepak Pednekar of Cyber Crime PS address these officials and emphasized the need for real-time coordination and proactive steps to mitigate financial losses to customers. Banks were urged to comply with RBI and Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines on cyber fraud reporting and cooperation with law enforcement. Total 90 bank officials attended this meeting at GO Institute, Altinho, Panaji.

The Cyber Crime Police assured continued collaboration and support to all stakeholders in the fight against cyber crime and reiterated their commitment to safeguarding citizens from digital threats.
