Goa Khabar :The Goa Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) has announced the names of seven boxers who will represent the state in the 6th Youth Men’s National Boxing Championship to be held in Gangtok, Sikkim from June 13 to 18. The championship is organised by the Boxing Federation of India and will feature the best young talents from across the country.
The Goa team comprises of Laxman Toralkar (46-48 kg), Ashok Chavvan (48-51 kg), Shrinivash Lamani (51-54 kg), Jeet Roy (54-57 kg), Sanjay Gaonkar (60-63.5 kg), Vedant Korgaonkar (63.5-67 kg) and Suyash Parab (75-80 kg). They have been selected after rigorous trials and training sessions conducted by the association. The boxers had to attend a coaching camp where they were trained and later selected to represent Goa.

The team which is currently enroute Sikkim is being accompanied by boxing coaches Nilesh Khanolkar and Abu Talib Khan, who have been preparing the boxers for over a month at the coaching camp in Goa. They expressed confidence in the abilities and potential of the boxers and that they will perform well at the national level.
“We have a strong and balanced team of young boxers who have shown great dedication and discipline during the camp. They have worked hard on their skills, fitness and tactics and are ready to face any challenge. We are optimistic that they will bring laurels to the state and make us proud,” said Secretary of GABA, Mukhtar Amlani.
Treasurer, GABA and joint secretary of West Zone – Boxing Federation of India, International Technical Official (ITO),Danuska da Gama, said: “We don’t wish to simply send a full team (13) to show participation. The competition level at nationals is high. We’ve selected seven boxers.”
The competition in Sikkim will be under the technical purview of senior International Technical Official of India Lenny D’Gama who will be working as Technical Delegate. D’Gama recently was awarded the status of Deputy Technical Delegate by the International Boxing Association.
The 6th Youth Men’s National Boxing Championship is one of the most prestigious events in the Indian boxing calendar. It will witness the participation of young boxers from across the states and union territories of India. The championship will be an opportunity for the boxers to demonstrate their skills and qualify for representing India at the international level.
