Goa Khabar:The Goa Human Resource Development Corporation commemorated International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking on the theme “Say yes to life and no to drugs” to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse. The function was held at Porvorim today.
Director General of Police Shri Jaspal Singh, IPS who graced the function highlighted the significance of celebrating international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking and said that abuse and the illicit trafficking of drugs is an evil in our society. We can fight against the menace of drug and reduce the drug if whole society, and particularly if youths comes forward. There is a need to raise awareness about the impact and negative consequences that drugs have on society. We have to educate people about bad effects of drugs. Skit play, theatre, counselling and drama are the powerful medium for conveying a strong message to the people, the DGP added.

Speaking further Shri Singh said together, we can tackle the drug menace. As regard to consumption of drugs it is the responsibility of each and every citizen to come forward and supplement the efforts of law enforcement agencies to prevent the requirement of drugs. The society should play a significant role to prosecute those who indulge in drugs so as to refrain our people from such unproductive activities which cause harm to the health.
He also urged the people to remain vigilant and inform the law enforcement agencies about the suspicious activities if they come across if any in their respective areas. Narcotic drugs he said has ruined the lives of several people and the Narco-terrorism can pose danger to the national security.
Narcotic Drugs will in no way meet and solve the problems of life and therefore one should live a healthy life by keeping themselves away from the drugs. He also lauded the role of Police in creating awareness against drug abuse and drug trafficking.
The Security Guards, House keeping attendants and staff of the corporation presented a skit on I’ll effects of drug abuse.
Certificates were also presented to those participating in the skit.
On arrival the DGP was received by Managing Director Shri Narayan Navati and General Manager Shri John Aguiar and later escorted to the saluting base where a guard of honour was presented to him by the GHRDC security.
Earlier a brief presentation about corporation activities was shown to the DGP and a memento was presented.
Shri Singh was also introduced to all security officers and senior security officers. Shri Akhil Shetkar compered the entire programme while Shri John Aguiar proposed a vote of thanks.
Shri Narayan Navati, Managing Director, GHRDC in his welcome address informed that GHRDC was established to create adequate trained personnel to various Government Department and so far GHRDC has provided meritorious, clerical as well as multitasking staff as per the requirement of various Government department from time to time.
Anti-drug pledge was administered to all present on the occasion.
Shri John Aguiar, General Manager, GHRDC introduced the guest. Shri Akhil Shetkar compered the function.
