Strict action assured against unauthorised vehicle rentals; digital customer verification platform and centralised traffic fine payments discussed

Goa Khabar: Goa Police held a meeting with rent-a-car and rent-a-bike operators on Monday to strengthen coordination between the Police, Transport Department and rental vehicle agencies across the state. The meeting was chaired by the Director General of Police (DGP), Goa.

Around 50 representatives of rent-a-car and rent-a-bike agencies from across Goa attended the meeting, along with officials from the Transport Department and senior Goa Police officers.

During the meeting, several issues concerning the rental vehicle industry, regulatory compliance, customer verification and traffic enforcement were discussed.

One of the major concerns raised was the unauthorised use of private vehicles for rental purposes. Goa Police assured the operators that strict action would be taken against those found renting out private vehicles without the necessary authorisation.

To improve customer verification and ensure compliance with permit conditions prescribed by the Transport Department, Goa Police proposed developing a digital platform to record the details of customers hiring rental vehicles.

The proposed platform would also facilitate authentication of documents submitted by customers. Stakeholders welcomed the initiative and agreed to use the platform for verification purposes.

Another important issue discussed was the difficulty faced by rental operators in paying traffic fines issued in different jurisdictions across Goa.

Transport Department officials agreed to examine the feasibility of introducing a centralised system for payment of traffic fines, which could eliminate the need for rental agencies to travel to different parts of the state to clear pending challans.

During the discussions, rental operators were advised to maintain proper customer records in accordance with Transport Department regulations and ensure courteous and responsible behaviour towards tourists.

Operators were also encouraged to install GPS tracking devices in all rental vehicles to improve monitoring and vehicle management.

The meeting provided an opportunity for rental agencies to share their concerns and suggestions directly with senior police and transport officials.

According to the press note issued by the Public Relations Officer of North Goa Police, the feedback received during the meeting would help Goa Police improve its future response and assist the Transport Department in formulating appropriate policies.

The initiative is expected to strengthen coordination among enforcement agencies and rental vehicle operators while promoting better regulatory compliance and responsible tourism practices across Goa
