Goa Khabar : The Deposit Refund Scheme (Goa DRS) conducted a comprehensive awareness drive at the Gram Sabha held at Village Panchayat Nadora, Bardez, Goa on Sunday. The initiative aimed at educating local residents about the Deposit Refund Scheme, a key environmental and consumer initiative, encouraging the return of used non-biodegradable DRS friendly packaging in exchange for refunds, thereby promoting packaging waste reduction.

The awareness drive was organised in close collaboration with the Village Panchayat Nadora as a part of the ongoing Information Education Communication (IEC) exercise. Officials from the scheme operator were present at the event to interact directly with Gram Sabha members explaining the process. The session covered key topics including how the Deposit Refund Scheme works, the types of containers eligible for return, the refund process, and the broader environmental benefits of reducing plastic and glass waste in Goa.

“The DRS team came to our Gram Sabha to explain about this upcoming scheme. Cleanliness and environmental responsibility are values our village holds dear and by returning used DRS-friendly packaging, our residents can contribute towards keeping Nadora clean. I urge every family in our Panchayat to participate actively in this scheme and set an example for the rest of Goa.” said Smt. Vishwajya Vishwanath Haldankar, Sarpanch, Village Panchayat Nadora, Bardez, Goa

Residents were encouraged to actively participate and experience the Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) by returning empty packaging in the machine to claim the refund. A live demonstration of the DRS registration and return process was also conducted, helping villagers understand how to participate with ease and confidence.
