New centre to serve as a regional healthcare hub with advanced diagnostics, trauma care, and 24/7 services~
Goa Khabar: Reinforcing its pro-development vision and commitment to strengthening public healthcare infrastructure, the foundation stone for a new Primary Health Centre in Porvorim was laid today by Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa and Shri Vishwajit Rane, Hon’ble Minister for Health, Government of Goa.
The upcoming facility is envisioned as a fully equipped, state-of-the-art healthcare centre designed to deliver accessible, high-quality medical services to residents in and around Porvorim. Built with a focus on modern infrastructure and advanced medical capabilities, the Primary Health Care Centre will cater to a wide spectrum of healthcare needs under one roof.
Strategically located to serve surrounding areas, the centre will act as a regional hub, significantly reducing the need for residents to travel long distances for specialized treatment. The facility will house multiple departments including physiotherapy, gynaecology, paediatrics, and dental care, along with continuous OPD services and advanced diagnostic support such as X-ray and modern testing equipment.
Given its proximity to the highway, the Public Health Centre will also include dedicated emergency and trauma care services. A dialysis unit is being introduced as part of expanded specialized care, alongside a 24/7 pharmacy ensuring uninterrupted access to essential healthcare.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa said, “We always say that ‘Health is Wealth.’ With the commencement of this healthcare centre, we are strengthening core infrastructure that will cater to all sections of society. This state-of-the-art facility reflects our commitment to delivering accessible, high-quality healthcare while continuing to build Porvorim as a well-planned, future-ready constituency.”
Shri Vishwajit Rane, Hon’ble Minister for Health, Government of Goa added, “Our focus is on strengthening primary healthcare as the first point of contact for patients. This facility is being designed to deliver comprehensive services from diagnostics to emergency response and chronic care under one roof, ensuring early intervention and continuity of care. We are prioritising clinical efficiency, timely treatment, and reducing the burden on tertiary hospitals by enabling care at the community level.”
Highlighting the execution commitment, Shri Michael Lobo, Hon’ble MLA of Calangute and Chairman of GSIDC stated, “Grateful for the support extended, we are committed to completing this project; not just as a structure but as a fully operational healthcare centre with all necessary equipment and services in place.”
The Porvorim Primary Health Centre (PHC) stands as a significant step towards strengthening grassroots healthcare delivery, aligning infrastructure development with the larger goal of ensuring equitable and efficient medical access for all sections of society.
