Goa Khabar : Opposition MLAs on Tuesday gave a clear message of unity to hold the BJP Government responsible for all its failures and for spoiling Goa’s image in the tourism sector at national and international level, which is the backbone of the state’s economy.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, MLA Vijai Sardesai, MLA Adv. Carlos Ferreira, MLA Altone D’Costa, MLA Viresh Borkar, and MLA Venzy Viegas were present.
LoP Yuri Alemao said that all members took an active part in the meeting and suggested various strategies to grill the government. “We will be taking up several issues together and make it a point that our people and the state get justice. We have planned a strategy such that this government, despite having 33 MLAs, will fail in the assembly session,” Alemao said.
“While becoming the voice of the people, we are determined to hold this government accountable for its failures and for issues like land conversion, unemployment, cash-for-jobs, mass killing of people in the nightclub and the deteriorating economy,” Alemao said.
He said that after the suspension of mining activities, tourism had become the backbone of the economy. “But this government has broken this backbone. It has no plans for revenue, hence it borrows loans even to pay salaries. This is the situation where Goa is reeling under failed policies,” he said.
“Through land conversions and allowing mega projects illegally, the BJP Government has sold Goa to crony capitalists. This is why people are agitating and seeking justice to save their villages. I am confident that people will not be deterred by the dadagiri of this government but will fight to protect villages and our environment,” Alemao said.
“As opposition MLAs, we have decided to raise all the pressing issues like the destruction of the environment taking place in the state,” Alemao said.
