Goa Khabar : Konkan Railway joined the nation in observing the inauguration of the year-long commemoration of the National Song “Vande Mataram” on 7th November 2025. The programme was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
On this occasion, a Commemorative Stamp and Coin marking 150 years of the composition of Vande Mataram were also released by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. The Vande Mataram song, written by Bankimchandra Chatterjee in 1875, first appeared in the literary journal Bangadarshan as part of his novel Anandamath. Vande Mataram, invoking the Motherland as an embodiment of strength, prosperity and divinity, played a significant role in India’s freedom movement and continues to inspire national pride and unity.
As part of the nationwide observance, Mass Singing of the full version of Vande Mataram was held across the Konkan Railway network. The mass singing at the Office of ED(SP & BD), Madgaon, was led by Shri Joseph George, ED(SP & BD), with active participation of executives and staff. Similarly, employees and passengers joined the mass singing at Pernem, Thivim, Karmali, Verna, Majorda, Madgaon, Balli, Canacona and Loliem railway stations. The echoes of Vande Mataram also resonated across stations where the instrumental version of the song was played, creating an atmosphere of unity and patriotic fervour.
This event marks the beginning of a year-long commemoration from 7th November 2025 to 7th November 2026, during which various cultural, educational and awareness activities will be organized.
Vande Mataram continues to inspire generations with its message of devotion to the Motherland. Konkan Railway is proud to be part of this 150-year commemoration and will carry forward the spirit of this national legacy.
