Goa Khabar:The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa has demanded that an attempt-to-murder case be registered against the police officials involved in the brutal assault of Navelim youth, Edberg Pereira, who is currently undergoing brain surgery at Goa Medical College (GMC) after sustaining severe injuries in police custody.
AAP Goa President Adv. Amit Palekar and National Youth President Siddesh Bhagat visited Goa Medical College today to meet Edberg’s family and doctors treating him. The leaders condemned the barbaric assault and said it shows how BJP’s political interference has destroyed Goa’s law and order system.
Adv. Amit Palekar said, “BJP has reduced Goa Police to a private militia. Political interference has turned officers into goons. Goa Police and SP South Goa are misleading people — Edberg Pereira was beaten in front of his family, yet the police are twisting facts.”
Palekar also confirmed that he will personally represent Edberg Pereira’s case as his lawyer, saying, “I will be officially representing Edberg Pereira as a lawyer. The police are threatening and pressuring the family to change their statements. The SP South Goa is misleading people and making a mockery of the investigation.”
AAP National Youth President Siddesh Bhagat said, “It has been eight days since the incident and no case has been registered. This is the real state of law and order in Goa. People of Goa have lost trust in the police.”
Bhagat further said, “The SP claims the youth misbalanced and fell — if that’s true, why was the officer suspended? This clearly proves the SP is lying to protect the guilty officers.”
He added, “BJP’s police give VIP treatment to dreaded criminals but beat up a common Goan inside the police station. This is not policing — this is political brutality.”
AAP has demanded that:
An FIR of Attempt to Murder be filed against the police officials involved. The case be transferred to a judicial inquiry or independent agency.
The SP South Goa be held accountable for misleading the public and protecting guilty officers.
Adv. Amit Palekar concluded, “This government has lost control over the police. The Chief Minister must answer — how many more Goans will be beaten inside police stations before justice is served? AAP will not rest until those responsible are punished.”
