Goa Khabar : Condemning the attack on activist Rama Kankonkar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Thursday stated that Goa is witnessing a disturbing trend of ‘goondagiri’ by assailants protected by police and questioned Chief Minister Pramod Sawant whether Goa is safe.
After the attack, Yuri Alemao visited Kankonkar, who was being treated in Goa Medical College.
“I strongly condemn the attack on activist Rama Kankonkar. The perpetrators of this cowardly act must be apprehended and brought to justice. Goa is witnessing a disturbing trend of ‘goondagiri’ by assailants protected by police. Individuals who speak out against wrongdoing are targeted. We cannot tolerate such incidents that silence whistle-blowers and undermine the voice of dissent,” Alemao said.

“Home Ministry and Intelligence agencies have failed miserably. The earlier attack on Rama Kankonkar outside the court, followed by police inaction, clearly indicates that law enforcement is shielding the perpetrators. This raises serious concerns about the collapse of law and order in the state,” Alemao said.
“Multiple times we have said that there is no fear of law to miscreants as some crimes are taking place with the help of police. Chief Minister should come clear whether people of the state are safe or not. Such criminal incidents will create fear among the people,” Alemao said.
“Eyewitnesses claim the assailants were having weapons, which deterred them from intervening to rescue Rama Kankonkar. Goa has turned into Gundaraj. This should be stopped,” Alemao said.
