Goa Khabar:AAP Benaulim MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas, AAP Goa President Adv. Amit Palekar, AAP Working President Valmiki Naik, AAP Vice President Chetan Kamat and Sunil Singnapurkar, AAP General Secretary Organisation Shrikrishna Parab and other AAP leaders Sarfaraz Ankalgi, Salman Khan and Rohan Naik held a bike rally on Saturday under the #BJPCheBurak campaign. The ride started from Khapreshwar Devasthan in Porvorim and went up to Mapusa, highlighting the pathetic state of the highway.
On Friday, AAP had openly invited Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and all MLAs to join the rally and experience firsthand what common people endure every day due to pothole-ridden roads. However, no BJP MLA turned up. While AAP Benaulim MLA Capt. Venzy joined, AAP Velim MLA Cruz Silva could not attend as he was outside the state.
Adv. Amit Palekar said, “The absence of other MLAs shows the seriousness of AAP. AAP is the only credible and uncompromised party, the true voice of Goa.”
Palekar further added, “We raised the pothole issue in the Assembly, where even CM Pramod Sawant admitted that 50% of accidents happen due to bad roads. After that, we took the #BJPCheBurak campaign to the streets across Goa, exposing the poor governance and corruption of the BJP government. Our campaign awakened them from their deep slumber, and now the government is doing patchwork in a haphazard manner.”
The pathetic condition of Goa’s roads, Palekar said, is the direct result of the BJP government’s 40% commission raj. “Because of their corrupt demands, contractors deliver substandard work, and it is the common Goan who continues to suffer.” Speaking to the media after taking blessings at Khapreshwar Devasthan along with other AAP leaders, Palekar said, “We prayed for his blessings to put an end to the corrupt governance of the BJP government.”
Capt. Venzy Viegas, who rode pillion with Adv. Palekar, expressed shock at the poor condition of the service road. “These ministers travel in vehicles worth crores, so they don’t realise the hardships. But the common man suffers daily. I can’t even imagine the plight of daily commuters. With a dry spell predicted, the government must take immediate action to repair these roads.”
Viegas also slammed the BJP government, saying that road repair work has turned into a money-making business for those in power. He pointed out that every year pre-monsoon tenders are issued, but within a month the tarred roads disappear. Soon after, potholes reappear, followed by new tenders for pothole filling. Once the monsoon ends, yet another tender is issued for road repairs. “This cycle only fills the pockets of a corrupt system, while our tax money sinks into the roads. Every year, Goans face the same potholes,” Viegas said.
He urged Goans to think carefully before voting. “Don’t get fooled by last-minute road works before elections. Calculate how much of your money has been wasted in the last four years. And then vote wisely.”
