Goa Khabar : St. Andre MLA Viresh Borkar, accompanied by the Mamlatdar, Talathi, and committee members, conducted an inspection of the sluice gates in the St. Andre constituency this week. The visit underscores Borkar’s ongoing commitment to safeguard the region’s traditional khazan lands, which are vital for local agriculture and flood management.

During the inspection, Borkar emphasized the importance of protecting the fields of Neura and Agassaim, highlighting their significance for future generations. He reiterated his pledge to revive and preserve khazan lands across St. Andre, aligning with his previous calls for government action to rejuvenate neglected agricultural areas and ensure sustainable livelihoods for local farmers.

The inspection follows Borkar’s active stance against projects he believes threaten the ecological balance and traditional land use in the constituency. He has recently demanded greater scrutiny of development permissions and has led protests against what he describes as environmentally destructive projects in the area.

Borkar’s efforts have brought renewed attention to the challenges facing Goa’s khazan lands, which have suffered from neglect and encroachment. He continues to advocate for systematic revival measures and stricter oversight to protect these unique ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
