Goa Khabar: The Goa Heritage Action Group (GHAG) *as part of its Silver Jublee celebrations* is set to commemorate World Heritage Day with a grand celebration at Gracia D Horta, Panjim, on April 22 from 4 to 8 PM, also coinciding with World Earth Day. World Heritage Day raises awareness about the cultural significance and importance of World Heritage sites.
The event will showcase Goa’s rich cultural heritage through traditional crafts, music, and dance.
The festivities, postponed from April 18 due to Holy Week, will feature live demos of traditional Goan crafts, including mollam, a traditional weaving technique, pottery, and colorful Chitari art from Cuncolim. The evening will also highlight the work of prominent Goans, including Fadista Sonia Shirsat, Festacar Marius Fernandes, and folk artist and researcher Susmita Gawas.
The event will also pay homage to women freedom fighters through a book by historian Prajal Sakhardande.
GHAG aims to preserve Goa’s dying traditional arts and crafts, promoting the state’s cultural identity.
“Our events will showcase a glimpse of our heritage and culture through various programs,” says *Dr Jorson Fernandes*. The celebration promises to be a vibrant tribute to Goa’s rich cultural legacy and commitment to sustainability.
