Goa Khabar : Enthusiastic runners, both professional and amateur, will scorch the roads of Tiswadi amid the monsoons on July 28 (Sunday), when the 10th edition of the annual Rotary Rain Run, a highly anticipated, annual charity run, gets underway.
The Rotary Rain Run 2024 will be flagged off by Col. Rajeev Raghavan, Deputy Commandant, 2STC and is scheduled to kick-off at 5:45 am onwards from the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) Athletics Stadium opposite the Goa Medical College, Bambolim.
The event’s course will commence at the SAG Athletics Stadium, with the 21 km timed run covering the scenic, sea-facing road up to Miramar Circle and back. Turnaround markers for other categories will be placed appropriately along the same route. Indian Army and Indian Navy personnel will volunteer and assist runners along the course, as in the previous editions of the Rotary Rain Run.

The event also continues its practice of promoting and supporting women’s health and education. All funds generated through the Rotary Rain Run 2024 will be donated to the Rotary Club of Porvorim’s Prakash Cancer Aid Project, which offers women free cancer detection services.
The categories for the Rotary Rain Run 2024 include timed runs for the 21 km and 10 km categories, a five km dream run, a two km fun walk and the newly introduced two km Seniority Walk for senior citizens. More than 40 para athletes from Goa and Karnataka are scheduled to participate in the two km fun walk.
While registrations are closed for the 21 km and 10 km runs, persons eager to sign up for the two km and five km races can still register. Each participant in the Rotary Rain Run 2024 will be given a fruit-bearing sapling as part of Dakoju’s Dhanyawad initiative. This initiative, aimed at countering the effects of global warming, is led by Rotarian Ravishankar Dakoju from Bengaluru, pledges to plant 100,000 trees in Goa and Sindhudurg, an adjoining district in neighbouring Maharashtra.
The Rotary Rain Run is a member of the Association of International Marathon and Distance Races (AIMS), an Association that collaborates with World Athletics to ensure that the road races are measured accurately and meet global standards.
This year, leading international athletes like Corina Van Dam from the Netherlands and Indian Guinness Book of World Record holders Kranti Salvi and Preeti Maske will be participating in the event.
Participants can collect their bibs on July 26 and 27, 2024. Bib distribution will take place at the SAG Athletics Stadium, opposite Goa Medical College in Bambolim, Goa, from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm.
