Goa Khabar: The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has formally welcomed the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee’s initiative to begin discussions on a possible electoral alliance for the 2027 Goa Assembly elections, while asserting that any political understanding should put the interests of Goa and Goans first.

RGP National President Viresh Mukesh Borkar has conveyed the party’s willingness to hold formal discussions with the Congress, citing common ground on issues related to Goa’s identity, land, employment, environment, sustainable development and the protection of the State’s distinctive social and cultural character.

Alliance Should Go Beyond Seat Sharing: RGP

In a press note issued on Wednesday, the RGP said a possible alliance should not be limited to a seat-sharing arrangement but should aim at providing Goa with a strong, united and credible political alternative.

The party has proposed the formulation of a Common Minimum Programme focused on protecting Goa and Goan interests, along with a transparent and mutually agreed seat-sharing formula for the 2027 Assembly elections.

RGP has also proposed electoral coordination for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections in Goa, safeguards against defections, and a coordinated campaign based on a common political vision for the State.

RGP Seeks Conclusion of Alliance Process Within 30 Days

The RGP said it has already begun organisational preparations and campaigning for the 2027 Assembly elections and therefore wants the proposed alliance discussions to move forward without unnecessary delay.

The party has proposed that the alliance process be concluded within 30 days of receipt of its letter.

RGP has nominated a six-member committee comprising Amol Navelkar as Chairman, Rohan Mohan Naik, Candido Correa, Neeraj Dhamaskar, Siddharth Anand Naik and Viresh Mukesh Borkar to represent the party during the talks.

The committee will hold discussions with the six-member Alliance Committee constituted by the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.

‘This Is About the Future of Goa’: Borkar

Borkar said the proposed political understanding was not merely about electoral calculations but about Goa’s future.

“For RGP, this is not about political arithmetic. It is about the future of Goa. Our land, our identity, our environment, our culture and the aspirations of our youth cannot be compromised,” Borkar said.

He added that if the parties come together, the alliance should work towards providing a government that protects the interests of Goans and respects the people’s mandate.

Borkar said any alliance should be based on trust, transparency, accountability and a shared commitment to Goa, while expressing hope for constructive and purposeful discussions with the Congress.

The RGP summed up its position with the call: “Goa First, Goans First.”
