A Voyage to Permanence, a three-day exhibition exploring cinema and migration to be held at Museum of Goa
Goa Khabar: The Museum of Goa (MOG) will host A Voyage to Permanence, a three-day exhibition celebrating the visual language of independent filmmaker Purandar Chaudhuri from 12 to 14 August 2026. Bringing together experimental cinema, photography, sound, and visual essays, the exhibition offers audiences an opportunity to engage with cinema beyond the screen, where moving images become spaces for contemplation and visual poetry.
Conceived by Jooby Yohannan, a well known curator from Bangalore and curated by renowned art critic and curator Johny ML, with exhibition visuals by Prakash Braggs, A Voyage to Permanence revolves around three of Chaudhuri’s seminal experimental films: Impressions of Mingling, Tremors and Dhushor. Together, the works explore themes of migration, labour, impermanence and the human condition, creating an immersive experience where abstraction and lived realities intersect.
Rather than documenting social realities through conventional storytelling, Chaudhuri’s films employ monochromatic imagery, sparse dialogue and a fluid interplay between still and moving images to evoke the emotional and philosophical dimensions of existence. His cinematic practice offers meditative reflections on displacement, collective memory and the fragile continuity between past and present.
The exhibition programme will unfold over three days. On 12 August, visitors can experience a continuous screening of Impressions of Mingling alongside an exhibition of photographic works and alternative prints. 13 August will feature a continuous screening of Tremors within the exhibition space. On 14 August, the Museum auditorium will host a special screening of Dhushor, followed by an audience interaction with members of the creative team.
The exhibition will also mark the launch of the Goa Cyanotype Notebook, celebrating alternative photographic processes and image-making traditions. A conversation accompanying the release of the photobook will feature journalist and writer Jayanth Kodkani and visual artist, curator and INTACH Mangalore founding member Nemiraj Shetty, who will discuss cinema, photography and visual storytelling.
Speaking about the exhibition, Purandar Chaudhuri says, “A Voyage to Permanence seeks to expand the experience of cinema beyond narrative into an encounter with image and time itself. The exhibition encourages audiences to slow down, inhabit silence and discover the poetic possibilities that emerge between stillness and motion.”
The exhibition has been realised through the collaborative efforts of Purandar Chaudhuri, Johny ML, Prakash Braggs, Jayanth Kodkani, Nemiraj Shetty and Jooby Yohannan, bringing together filmmaking, photography, curatorial practice, design and publishing into a unified artistic experience.
A Voyage to Permanence is open to the public at the Museum of Goa, Pilerne, from 12 to 14 August 2026.
