Goa Khabar : The Government of Goa, through the Captain of Ports Department, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HITES (HLL Infratech Services Ltd.), a Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
HITES is a reputed PSU with specialized expertise in disaster management, infrastructure resilience, and technology-driven solutions, which will be leveraged for Goa’s maritime sector.
The MoU aims to modernize and disaster-proof Goa’s ports and inland waterways, ensuring long-term structural safety, operational continuity and public safety.
AI-based monitoring and disaster-proof solutions will be implemented across ports and inland waterways for real-time surveillance, early detection of risks, and rapid response.
The collaboration will focus on Disaster Mitigation and Rehabilitation works, including:
1. Strengthening of jetties and waterfront infrastructure
2. Strengthening Search and Rescue infrastructure and response capability
3. Induction of specialized disaster management boats
4. Enhanced oil spill preparedness and response mechanisms
5. Scientific dredging of rivers and channels to prevent flooding and improve water flow
6. Construction of retaining walls and embankments to protect against erosion and flooding
7. AI-enabled surveillance and monitoring systems
8. Public warning and alert systems for extreme weather and emergencies
9. Installation of Early Warning Systems for cyclones, floods and tidal surges
10. Underground Cabling to reduce vulnerability during cyclones and floods
11. Development of cyclone shelters in vulnerable coastal and riverine areas
12. Support to coastal road infrastructure for evacuation and emergency access
13. Strengthening overall emergency preparedness and response systems
14. AI integration across planning, monitoring and disaster response operations
This initiative reflects the Government of Goa’s strong commitment to coastal development, enhanced maritime safety and climate-adaptive infrastructure. By leveraging advanced technology-driven and AI-based disaster-resilient solutions the collaboration aims to safeguard lives, livelihoods and critical maritime and economic activities. The initiative further positions Goa as a model coastal state, proactively adopting modern, disaster-resilient maritime infrastructure in alignment with national priorities and best practices.
