Goa Khabar : In a decisive step to streamline and strengthen the water sports sector in the State, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Rohan Khaunte chaired a meeting today with the Director of Tourism Kedar Naik; Deputy Director  Diksha Tari; Octavio Rodrigues, Captain of Ports, and the Water Sports Association of Goa. The meeting focused on ensuring greater uniformity in rates, branding of kiosks, addressing illegal operations, and improving the overall tourist experience.

The discussions centred on challenges raised by the water sports operators, including the need for a standardized pricing structure across all beaches in Goa. The Department has taken note of these concerns and assured that steps will be taken to bring in greater transparency, better enforcement, and coordination among all stakeholders.

Speaking at the meeting, the Hon’ble Minister for Tourism Rohan Khaunte said*, “Water sports is one of the key attractions for tourists visiting Goa, and ensuring a uniform rate structure is essential for delivering a fair and transparent experience to our visitors. Our aim is to provide a seamless and safe tourism experience while safeguarding the interests of traditional Goan operators who have built this sector. I look forward to their support as ambassadors of tourism, to take these initiatives ahead. Today’s discussion between the Captain of Ports, the Department of Tourism, and the Association has been extremely positive.”

The Minister further stated that the Department will shortly convene a joint meeting with coastal MLAs, enforcement agencies, and other concerned departments to tackle issues related to illegal ticketing and unauthorized operations.

*The Director of Tourism Kedar Naik,* emphasized the importance of enforcement and collaborative action to protect the interests of genuine stakeholders. “We have already initiated steps to strengthen enforcement measures and ensure that registered operators receive due support from the Department. Uniformity in kiosk branding and rate regulation will bring discipline, improve service quality, and enhance Goa’s image as a premium coastal destination.”

The Water Sports Association welcomed the Department’s initiative and thanked the Minister and the Department of Tourism for taking their concerns seriously. Uniform rates will not only protect operators from undercutting but will also ensure tourists are not overcharged by unauthorized agents. The Water Sports Association of Goa now looks forward to starting the season with renewed confidence once the rates are officially notified.

The Department of Tourism assured that once the uniform rates are gazetted, operations will commence across all major beaches in a regulated and transparent manner. Coordination with the Captain of Ports will be strengthened to ensure that only licensed operators conduct activities.

This strategic initiative will not only bring structure and fairness to the water sports sector but also ensure that tourists, both domestic and international, enjoy memorable and safe experiences, reinforcing Goa’s position as India’s leading coastal tourism destination.
