Goa Khabar : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa has launched a fierce attack on the BJP-led central government after AAP’s Jammu & Kashmir MLA Mehraj Malik was arrested under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA), a law normally invoked for terrorists and criminals posing a grave threat to the nation.
While addressing the media in Panaji on Wednesday, AAP Goa President Adv. Amit Palekar condemned the move, calling it “murder of democracy.” “What did Malik do to deserve such a harsh law? Did he create any law and order problem? Is demanding a hospital for his constituency such a grave crime? For the first time in history, PSA has been used against an elected legislator. Even the J&K Speaker has said no permission was taken before his arrest. Does J&K even have a functioning government or Assembly anymore?” Palekar asked.
He said the arrest exposes how BJP has weaponised police, ED, CBI, and judiciary to crush opposition voices. “When Article 370 was abrogated, BJP promised democracy in J&K. When Article 370 was abrogated, BJP promised democracy in J&K. But what followed was the use of PSA to silence non-BJP leaders and suppress their voices. And now, this very law is being misused against AAP’s MLA Mehraj Malik. What kind of democracy is this?, Palekar charged.
AAP Goa Working President Valmiki Naik said the arrest proves BJP is rattled by AAP’s growing popularity. “Wherever AAP grows, BJP suppresses us with police and agencies. This is no longer Public Safety Act, it’s Party Safety Act to protect BJP”, Naik said.
“Congress and other opposition leaders on the other hand, is never targeted despite countless proofs of corruption because they have sold themselves out and act like BJP’s B-team. Today BJP is the best washing machine in the country, where corrupt leaders go to clean their sins. You don’t even need to go to the holy Ganga anymore, because even Ganga will doubt her own strength after seeing how BJP washes away sins. But AAP leaders will never bow down, and that is why only AAP is being targeted across India,” Naik added.
He further said that the party would not be intimidated: “If an elected MLA can be treated like a terrorist just for demanding a hospital, then no citizen is safe under BJP’s rule. Whoever tries to break AAP, we will fight back with double the strength from the streets to the Supreme Court. This is not just an attack on Mehraj Malik, this is an attack on democracy itself.”
