Cruise Tourism season begins with grand arrival of two ships at Mormugao Port

Goa Khabar : Goa’s cruise tourism season commenced on a promising note as Mormugao Port welcomed the arrival of two magnificent cruise ships on Saturday. The international cruise ship Vasco Da Gama, which sailed in from Mumbai, brought with it 590 passengers and 416 crew members, marking an exhilarating start to the season.
Adding to the vibrancy, the domestic cruise liner Empress, carrying 1,300 passengers, also docked at the port on the same day. The Vasco Da Gama later departed for Kochi as part of its itinerary, while Empress stayed to allow guests to immerse themselves in Goa’s captivating blend of culture, heritage, and natural beauty.
*Speaking about the significance of this milestone, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte said “Goa continues to solidify its position as a global cruise tourism destination. This season’s opening with the arrival of two prominent cruise liners elevates our efforts towards promoting high-value tourism and enrich visitor experiences while ensuring benefits for our local communities through sustainable tourism initiatives.”*
*Director of Tourism, Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, echoed the sentiment, stating “The Department of Tourism, in collaboration with Mormugao Port Authority, has worked diligently to strengthen infrastructure and facilitate seamless cruise arrivals. With 44 cruise ships expected this season, we are poised to set new benchmarks in tourism growth and sustainability.”*
The Department of Tourism, celebrated the milestone as a testament to the state’s growing prominence as a premier cruise tourism destination. Speaking on the occasion, officials highlighted the concerted efforts to enhance tourism infrastructure and the seamless coordination between the Department of Tourism and Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) to facilitate such high-profile arrivals.
With a total of 44 international and domestic cruise ships expected this season, the Department of Tourism remains committed to driving sustainable and regenerative tourism practices, ensuring maximum benefits for the local community and economy. This development reinforces Goa’s position as a global hub for luxury travel and provides a significant boost to the state’s tourism and hospitality industries.
