Clinton Tavares and Hansine Benoit win half marathon at 12th Rotary Rain Run

Dr Blanche Themudo and Uttam Jelugadekar win the 10km races.

Goa Khabar: Clinton Tavares of Ribandar and Hansine Benoit of Porvorim won the men’s and women’s half marathons at the 12^th Rotary Rain Run marathon event held at the Atal stadium, Bambolim on Sunday. While Clinton clocked an impressive 1:38:24 hours for the 21km race, Hansine clocked 1:53:19 hrs for the same distance.

In the 10km race, Dr Blanche Themudo of Colva ( 52:01 mins) and Uttam Jelugadekar ( 35:36 mins) of Old Goa won the women’s and men’s races respectively.

In an interesting coincidence, a mother-daughter combination from Jalandhar, Punjab won podium positions in the 21km half marathon races in their  respective age groups. While the daughter Avneet Virk, came second in the women’s half marathon race with a timing of 2:10:51 hrs, her mother Harpreet Virk came third in the women’s 45-59 age group race with a timing of 2:32:35 hrs.

An elated Clinton, the men’s half marathon winner  said, “This is a challenging course with many ups and downs. I had to dig deep to find that mental strength to push through.”

While Hansine, the women’s half marathon winner said, “It feels incredibly rewarding to win this race, especially after all the hard work and training that went into this.”

Uttam Jelugadekar, the 10km men’s winner was very happy to have won his race on Kargil Vijay Diwas today. He said, “I dedicate my victory to the brave soldiers of the Indian Army  whose courage and sacrifice inspire us.”
