8th Jal Abhishek Pays Tribute to Heroes of the Historic Cuncolim Uprising

Goa Khabar: The 8th Jal Abhishek, organised by Kunkalli Shourya Prathishthan, was held at the Chieftains Memorial to honour the 16 Chieftains who sacrificed their lives during the historic 1583 Cuncolim Uprising.

The programme began with the ceremonial Jal Abhishek, followed by a series of cultural performances and a historical street play depicting the bravery and sacrifices of the Cuncolim Chieftains. The occasion also featured the presentation of the prestigious Dharmrakshak Puraskar and Dharmaprasarak Puraskar to recognise outstanding contributions towards preserving cultural and religious heritage.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the descendants of the 16 Chieftains, temple representatives, historians, dignitaries and members of the public. The gathering reaffirmed a collective commitment to preserving and promoting Goa’s rich historical and cultural legacy while remembering the courage and sacrifice of the Cuncolim heroes.
