Goa Khabar : A 62-year-old scooter rider lost his life after a huge roadside tree suddenly collapsed onto the busy Matve–Dabolim–Vasco road on Tuesday, trapping him beneath the fallen tree.
The deceased has been identified as Francisco Nunes (62), a resident of Sada.
The incident occurred during peak traffic hours, leading to major traffic disruption as commuters were stranded on both sides of the road. Emergency response teams, including police and other authorities, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. However, the rider had succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities later cleared the fallen tree to restore traffic movement. Police have registered the case and further investigation is underway.
The tragic incident has once again raised concerns over the condition of old roadside trees, especially during the monsoon season, when strong winds and heavy rainfall increase the risk of such accidents.
