Goa Khabar : The South-West Monsoon has officially covered the entire state of Goa today, June 6. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon made its onset over the Kerala region on June 4, showing rapid progress over the last two days. By June 5, it had covered parts of South Goa, and as of this afternoon, it has advanced across the entire state.
The swift advancement of the monsoon is attributed to a favorable weather system active near Goa. Meteorological data reveals that the region has already experienced significant rainfall, with Old Goa recording 80 mm of rain yesterday. Widespread moderate rainfall has been reported across both North and South Goa districts.
An IMD official shared insights based on the latest satellite imagery and cloud brightness temperature data:
“The monsoon has progressed exceptionally well. As seen in the afternoon satellite imagery, a dense cloud mass is actively moving over the West Coast, extending from Kerala up to coastal Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district. This large-scale distribution confirms that the monsoon has entirely covered Goa on June 6.”
The IMD has issued a weather forecast for the next five days, predicting continuous moderate rainfall across the state, with isolated pockets expected to witness heavy downpours. Residents should also prepare for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h, particularly during the evening hours. A yellow alert remains in place, advising caution as the monsoon activity intensifies.
