Empowering women through digital literacy with the launch of MDSY Training in Mulgao, Bicholim

Goa Khabar : Strengthening the vision of Mahila Sashaktikaran through digital empowerment, the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Government of Goa, organised the inaugural session of a training programme under the Mahila Digital Sashaktikaran Yojana (MDSY) at Mulgao, Bicholim.

Under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant and Hon’ble Minster for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Rohan Khaunte, the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications continues to strengthen its efforts towards bridging the digital divide and advancing inclusive access to technology across Goa, with a focused emphasis on empowering women through digital literacy initiatives such as MDSY. This initiative is supported by Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, Hon’ble MLA for Bicholim and Chairman, Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd., and guided at the departmental level by Kabir Shirgaonkar, Director, Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITE&C), with a focused emphasis on empowering women through digital literacy initiatives such as MDSY.

The programme was conducted by the Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd., the implementation agency for the MDSY scheme, in the presence of Padmakar Malik, Latambarcem Zilla Panchayat Member; Suhasini Govekar, Sarpanch of Mulgao; Trupti Gaad, Panch Member; and Vidhisha Bugde, CSE–VLE (Village Level Entrepreneur).

The Mahila Digital Sashaktikaran Yojana is a flagship initiative of the Department aimed at fostering digital inclusion and enhancing skill development among women across Goa, particularly in rural areas. The initiative seeks to empower women by equipping them with essential digital knowledge and enabling greater participation in the digital ecosystem.

As part of the programme, participants were introduced to the Cyber Saksharta course, which focuses on building foundational digital literacy. The training is being delivered through Citizen Service Centres (CSCs) and IT Knowledge Centres (ITKCs), with Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) playing a key role in facilitating access at the grassroots level.

Officials from the Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd., explained the key elements of the Cyber Saksharata course under the MDSY initiative, highlighting efforts aimed at empowering women through digital literacy and access to technology.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from women in the locality, along with members of the community and panchayat representatives. The session marked the beginning of structured training aimed at equipping participants with practical digital skills.

The initiative reflects the Government’s continued commitment to inclusive growth by ensuring that women are equipped with the tools and knowledge required to confidently engage with the digital landscape.
