Goa Khabar: Department of Tourism, The Government of Goa, successfully concluded the vibrant and culturally rich celebrations of Shigmotsav 2026, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from locals and visitors alike across multiple locations in the state. The festival commenced in Ponda and travelled across key towns including Calangute, Panaji, Mapusa, Curchorem, Bicholim, Sanquelim, Shiroda, Sanguem, Dharbandora, Cuncolim, Margao, Vasco, Povorim, Valpoi, Pernem, and Quepem, before culminating in a grand finale at Mandrem.

Celebrated as Goa’s traditional spring festival, Shigmotsav brought together a showcase of the state’s rich cultural heritage through colourful street parades, traditional folk dances such as Romtamel, Ghode Modni and Fugdi, energetic drum performances, and intricately designed mythological floats. Each location offered a unique flavour of the festivities, with local communities coming together to celebrate age-old traditions, creating an immersive cultural experience for attendees.

The parades featured colourful floats showcasing scenes from Indian epics and Goan folklore, alongside vibrant performances by cultural troupes that highlighted the state’s rich artistic diversity. The festival also served as a platform for local artists and artisans to showcase their talent, reinforcing Goa’s commitment to preserving and promoting its intangible cultural heritage.

Tourists from across India and abroad were seen actively engaging with the festivities, further strengthening Goa’s positioning as a destination that offers experiences beyond its beaches, rooted in culture, community, and tradition.

Speaking on the successful conclusion of Shigmotsav 2026, Rohan A. Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, said: “Shigmotsav is a true reflection of Goa’s unique cultural identity and community spirit. This year’s celebrations across multiple towns have once again showcased the richness of our traditions and the enthusiasm of our people. We are delighted to see both locals and visitors come together to experience this unique festival. Through such initiatives, we continue to promote Goa as a year-round destination that offers diverse and authentic cultural experiences beyond its beaches.

Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, Goa added, ‘’ Shigmotsav is a true reflection of Goa’s living traditions and community spirit. Celebrating it across multiple locations helps us bring authentic cultural experiences closer to visitors while encouraging them to explore Goa beyond the usual hotspots’’

The successful execution of the festival across numerous locations highlights the Tourism department’s continued efforts to decentralise tourism and encourage visitors to explore Goa beyond conventional hotspots, while supporting local communities and cultural ecosystems.

With Shigmotsav 2026 concluding on a high note in Mandrem, Goa once again reaffirmed its reputation as a destination that seamlessly blends tradition, celebration, and tourism.
