Goa Khabar : Goa Foundation (GF) will be releasing the fifth edition of their landmark, environmental book, “Fish, Curry and Rice” at the hands of Justice Ferdino Rebello at the Kala Academy, Panaji on Saturday, March 14 at 3pm. The event is free and open to the public.

In a media release issued in the city on Friday, Claude Alvares, co-founder of the Goa Foundation said, “The 400-page, fully revised and expanded fifth edition brings together contributions from naturalists, wild lifers, artists, lawyers, photographers, cartographers, life scientists and social activists, creating a rich portrait of Goa’s landscapes and the many struggles to protect them.”

First published in 1993, “Fish Curry and Rice” became a landmark guide to the ecological foundations of Goa’s way of life. The book explores the natural systems that sustain the state — its rivers, forests, fields, coastlines and biodiversity — while documenting the citizen movements that have worked to defend them.

The launch event will include a felicitation of 16 of Goa’s environmental defenders which will precede the release. The event will conclude with a special lecture by Justice Gautam Patel, retired judge of the Bombay High Court, who has always advocated the urgent need to protect Goa’s fragile ecology.

The book will be on sale, proceeds of which will fund Goa Foundation’s ecological battles in the days to come.
