Goa Khabar : AAP MLA from Benaulim Capt. Venzy Viegas launched a strong attack on the BJP government during the discussion on Vande Mataram in the Goa Assembly, questioning the BJP–RSS’s moral authority to speak on nationalism.

Speaking to the Chair, Capt. Venzy asked the BJP benches: “When Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh raised the slogan Vande Mataram, where were your forefathers? When Shaheed Sukhdev, Rajguru were chanting Vande Mataram and going to jail, being beaten with batons — where was the RSS?”

He challenged the BJP to name even four RSS members who were jailed for raising Vande Mataram. “You cannot name even four. History clearly records that for 52 years the RSS did not allow the Indian tricolour to be hoisted at its headquarters. When three citizens hoisted the national flag at the RSS office, FIRs were filed against them. Their only ‘crime’ was hoisting the tricolour,” Venzy said.

Taking the debate further, the AAP MLA exposed BJP’s hypocrisy on nationalism. “Inside this Assembly, BJP speaks about Vande Mataram. Outside, they destroy our motherland. They destroy hills, forests and villages while pretending to love the nation,” he said.

Referring to the line ‘Sujalam Sufalam’ from Vande Mataram, Capt. Venzy remarked: “The song speaks of a land rich in water and prosperity. But under BJP rule, Goa is facing water shortages. BJP has failed to protect our rivers — Sal, Mandovi and Mhadei are being destroyed. This is BJP’s idea of Sujalam Sufalam.”

He further attacked the BJP on corruption and governance failures. “The BJP talks about nationalism, but allows blatant corruption in Goa. This corruption has cost the lives of at least 25 innocent Goans. Is this their patriotism?”

Capt. Venzy concluded by stating that real nationalism means protecting people, land, rivers and lives — not hiding behind slogans.
“A party that opposed the tricolour for decades has no moral right to lecture this House on Vande Mataram,” he asserted.

AAP reiterated that it will continue to expose BJP’s hypocrisy and fight for genuine patriotism rooted in justice, honesty and protection of Goa.
