RCC-Salvador Do Mundo  wins All Goa Sub Junior and Junior Boys and Girls State Boxing Championship Title

GABA to start weekly sparring sessions at Boxing Hall Peddem to maximise ring exposure for boxers and to prepare for upcoming National Games in Uttarakhand

 

Goa Khabar: The All-Goa Sub Junior and Junior Boys and Girls State Boxing Championship held from November 7-9, 2024, at the Boxing Hall, Peddem, and organized by Goa Amateur Boxing Association came to a successful end on Saturday.

The three-day event saw enthusiastic participation from 122 boxers across the state, from 11 centres.

With 6 gold medals and 9 silver medals RCC Salvador Do Mundo won the championship with 36 points. With 7 Gold and 2 Silver medals RCC Peddem came in the second while RCC Fatorda, with 7 gold and 1silver, came in the Third place.

The three-day event saw some exciting bouts, young and fresh talent emerge which is a positive sign for the sport.

Speaking at the championship, President, Francis Viegas said: “The Sub Junior and Junior State Championship, has seen record breaking participation of 122 boxers from Goa. We ensured fair results by having officials officiate well and including outstation RJs. Additionally, a dental camp was organized to address the oral hygiene of the boxers. We always strive to provide the best for our boxers and coaches.”

 

Viegas added that in the recent months, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of boxers, especially after opening centres in Vasco and Ponda. “We have also started coaching in Margao and are encouraging ex-boxers to start boxing at various places to expand our talent pool,” he said.

 

The focus however remains on nurturing this large pool of young talent, aiming for them to participate and win internationally.

 

An exciting bout of the event was fought between Shaurya Panchal of Jab and Box Club, Chicalim and Muttu Malgitti of RCC-SDM. Shaurya punched his way into the finals to win the Gold Medal against Muttu.

 

Another bout that got the crowd excited was between Rehana Alam of RCC Peddem and Shagun Shinde of RCC-SDM. Rehana Alam was seen giving powerful punches to her opponent Shagun Shinde to win the Gold Medal in the Junior Girls-52 kg Category.

 

Goa Amateur Boxing Association will now organize regular sparring practices every Friday at 3.30pm from 15th November,2024 onwards at Boxing Hall Peddem, Bardez, Goa to provide a platform for boxers from the whole State of Goa to prepare and qualify for the 38th National Games to be held in Uttarakhand from January to February, 2025.
