Goa Khabar : In a bid to prevent harm and nuisance to the public, the Goa government has issued a notification reiterating guidelines for responsible pet ownership. The move comes after incidents of ferocious attacks by Rottweiler and Pitbull breeds, resulting in one fatality.
The guidelines, revised in 2023, emphasize that pet owners are solely responsible for ensuring their animals do not harm humans or other animals. Owners must keep their pets on a chain lead in public and report any bites to the Mission Rabies hotline.
The government has also made it mandatory for pet owners to submit a notarized affidavit taking responsibility for any harm caused by their pets and agreeing to bear medical treatment costs and compensation.
Irresponsible pet owners will face legal action under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The notification has been issued with the approval of the Goa government
