Urgent Pedestrian Overpass at Bambolim Demanded by MLA Viresh Borkar

Goa Khabar : The local MLA, Viresh Borkar, in his impassioned address, brought to the notice of the local body assembly the acute need for a pedestrian overhead pass at Bambolim. Emphasizing the increasing vehicular traffic and the resultant safety concerns to pedestrians, Borkar called for immediate intervention by the authorities.

One of the most bustling areas, with a high volume of local and tourist traffic, flow in Bambolim has increased tremendously over the past years. This is a commercial and scenic spot that has been plagued with safety issues, as pedestrians have to hazard crossing busy roads. Considering the precarious conditions, it was a very viable proposition that MLA Viresh Borkar pitched in, which met overwhelming support: a pedestrian overpass to ensure that people on foot cross the tracks safely.

Furthermore, Borkar outlined the economic fallout from a pedestrian overpass. Much safer passage for pedestrians could be expected to increase footfall to shops and hence stimulate the economy. Added to that, the beautification and modernization that often come with construction of this nature could improve the ambiance of the area, thus attracting more visitors and potential investors.

The MLA substantiated his appeal with figures and examples from other places where pedestrian overpasses reduced accident rates and led to a fantastic quality of life boost for citizens. He pointed out the potential for smart urban planning in the overpass itself: it could be made using eco-friendly materials, fitted with solar lighting, and implement special accessibility options for people with limited mobility.

Further, Borkar called for public participation in the planning process to ensure that the design of the overpass suits the explicit needs of Bambolim’s population. He called upon all constituents to make their support known and work collaboratively with local officials in this, one of the most important decision-making processes.
