Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, Partners with Yoska to Boost Sports Tourism

Goa Khabar: With an eye on promoting sports and adventure tourism, The Department of Tourism, Govt of Goa announced a strategic partnership with Yoska, organizers of the IRONMAN 70.3 India race in Goa, marking a significant step towards promoting sports tourism in the region. This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) underscores the collective aim to showcase Goa to sports enthusiasts worldwide.

The MoU was signed by Suneel Anchipaka (IAS) Director Tourism and Managing Director Goa Tourism Development Corporation and Neil D’silva, Deputy Race Director, Ironman 70.3 India at the recently concluded Goa International Travel Mart at Dona Paula.

Mr. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director Tourism & Managing Director GTDC stated “Through this partnership, we aim to position Goa as a premier destination for sports tourism, leveraging its natural beauty and vibrant energy to attract quality tourists from across the globe. Yoska brings valuable expertise and resources to the table, enabling us to develop and promote sporting events that showcase the best of what Goa has to offer.

IRONMAN 70.3 India, Goa was launched in 2019, and over the past 3 editions this prestigious race has attracted thousands of triathletes from India as well as from 50 other countries to Goa. The 2024 race will be held in Goa on 27th Oct., 2027, and will once again draw athletes to the State.

Deepak Raj, Chief Executive Officer of Yoska and franchise owner and race director of the IRONMAN 70.3 in India stated “With the support of Goa Tourism, IRONMAN 70.3 India has found its home in Goa and has evolved into an endurance race for India’s and the world’s triathlon community. Goa is already being viewed as a sports tourism destination internationally. The State offers a great backdrop for the race and provides excellent infrastructure for triathlons, a wide range of accommodation options and excellent airport access and everything that IRONMAN 70.3 participants would want. Goa emerged as the best choice location for the race due to its suitability, sports infrastructure and strong Government backing. Year after year we have seen growing support from the Government of Goa and Goa Tourism to expand the event and we are thankful for it”.

According to Deepak Raj, with Goa Tourism’s support, IRONMAN 70.3 India had found a home in the state, which, he said, has evolved into an international sports tourism destination.

Yoska ‘s commitment to bringing quality tourists to Goa aligns perfectly with the State’s mission to promote Goa beyond the beaches. This partnership will further elevate Goa as a top destination for sports enthusiasts, offering unforgettable experiences and endless opportunities for adventure and exploration.
