Goa Khabar: A dedicated facility for precise diagnosis and effective medical and surgical management for children in Goa will significantly help in dealing with children suffering from urinary tract infections, nocturnal enuresis and functional voiding disorders, according to Dr Vishal Sawant, a renowned paediatric surgeon.
Sawant was speaking at a pan-India workshop of medical professionals held recently at the Healthway Hospitals, Old Goa, which discussed the relevance of paediatric urodynamic procedures in cases involving congenital anomalies like cloaca, exstrophy, epispadias, posterior urethral valves and cases with spinal defects and cerebral palsy in children causing disturbance in bladder function.

The workshop, first-of-its-kind in Goa, was a collaborative effort between the Department of Paediatric Surgery at Healthway Hospitals and the Deccan chapter of the Indian Association of Paediatric Surgeons. The half-day event witnessed the participation of over 25 delegates from across the country.
“Urodynamic studies in children require patience and need to be ideally done in the presence of consultants dealing with these problems in children. It proves beneficial for children dealing with recurrent urinary tract infections, bed wetting and functional voiding disorders,” said Dr Vishal Sawant, adding that such a facility dedicated to children was being mulled upon at the Healthway Hospital located on the Kadamba plateau.
The workshop was led by a distinguished panel of experts, including Dr V. Sreepathy, renowned paediatric urologist from Apollo Chennai and Dr Ramesh Babu, President of the Indian Association of Paediatric Surgeons and consultant paediatric surgeon at Sri Ramachandra Medical College Chennai & Dr Sudipta Sen, Prof Pediatric surgery CMC Vellore. The event was conducted by Dr Kant Shah ( Mumbai) & Dr Vishal Sawant (Goa).
Paediatric urodynamic testing holds immense promise in accurately diagnosing and treating urinary issues in children and the success of this workshop marks a significant step forward in paediatric healthcare in Goa and beyond.
