Goa Khabar:Churchill Brothers, FC Goa and Salgaocar FC registered wins in their respective encounters of the CAM Goa Professional League (Super League) on Monday.
While the Red Machines got the better of Calangute Association 2-1, Dempo Sports Club were beaten by Salgaocar FC by a solitary goal. Meanwhile, FC Goa trounced Sporting Clube de Goa 4-2.
By virtue of the results, Salgaocar FC moved to the top with 24 points while Sporting Clube and Calangute Association stayed on 21 points. Dempo SC remained on 20 points. FC Goa moved to 19 points while Churchill Brothers SC also added three more points, moving to seventeen points.
At Duler Stadium, goals from Jobern Cardozo and Edward Souza helped Churchill Brothers seal full points despite Calangute Association scoring a late consolation through Saeesh Halarnkar in the stoppage time.
Calangute Association had the first attempt on goal in the second minute when a long cross from the left flank found Nitish Hazra but the lad’s shot was blocked by the Red Machines keeper Eknath Rathod. At the other end, Calangute Association’s Presley Mascarenhas saved a low shot from Trijoy Dias with an outstretched save.
The Calangute Association relied more on crosses and set pieces, attempting long range shots, but they couldn’t get the required goal. Nigel saw his shot hit the Churchill Brothers side netting.
Calangute Association’s Presley Mascarenhas came with another brilliant save in the first half when he denied Lawren Fernandes shot from a distance.
Churchill Brothers finally broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when Joywin Carneiro failed to deal with a long ball from the halfway mark and Jobern Cardozo struck a first time shot which crashed into the net, 1-0.
Churchill continued to miss chances through Trijoy, Jobern and Bradley. The Red Machines finally doubled the lead in the 90th minute when Alent Colaco’s shot from a distance was blocked by Presley Mascarenhas. However, the ball fell to an unmarked Edward Souza, who had just come on as a 84th minute substitute and the midfielder made no mistake to place the ball at the back of the net.
Calangute Association were handed a chance in the stoppage time when they were awarded a penalty in the stoppage time. Saeesh Halarnkar sent the keeper in the wrong direction.
Meanwhile in another match at Tilak Maidan, Fhezer Gomes scored the lone goal of the game as Salgaocar FC edged past Dempo SC 1-0.
At Ella ground, FC Goa trounced Sporting Clube de Goa 4-2.
FC Goa’s Salgeo Dias netted a brace while Velroy Fernandes and Jordan Borges were the other goal getters for the winners. Sporting Clube de Goa netted through Llyod Cardozo and Rohan Rodrigues.
