Goa Ayurveda Council Flags Suspected Illegal Practices, Files Police Complaint

Goa Khabar: Goa Council of Ayurvedic and Other Allied Indian Systems of Medicine President Dr. Sneha Bhagwat has filed a complaint with the Mapusa Police, raising concerns over suspected illegal activities, misleading practices and alleged exploitation or extortion of citizens in the name of Ayurveda and AYUSH.

The complaint has sought police verification and appropriate action against establishments that may allegedly be offering Ayurvedic and other medical treatments without proper authorisation or making misleading representations to patients.

According to the complaint, concerns have been raised over advertisements, signboards and promotional material offering treatment for piles, fistula and fissure, including claims of treatment “without operation.” It states that such claims, particularly in relation to serious medical conditions, require verification by the competent authorities.

The complaint specifically brings Dr. A.K. Biswas – Piles Clinic in Mapusa to the attention of the police. The document identifies the establishment as a piles clinic specialising in piles, fistula and fissure treatment.

Dr. Bhagwat has requested the police to examine the matter from the perspective of public safety and protection of patients, particularly those who may be induced to pay substantial amounts on the basis of claims of guaranteed or non-surgical treatment.

The Council has urged the authorities to verify whether the activities concerned involve any unauthorised medical practice, misleading representation, exploitation or unlawful activity and to initiate appropriate action under applicable laws if violations are established.

The allegations contained in the complaint are subject to police verification, and no wrongdoing has been established merely by the filing of the complaint.
