Canoe Capsizes off Arossim; Three Mobile Phones Returned to Owners by Drishti Marine Lifesavers Over Weekend

Goa Khabar Drishti Marine lifesavers rushed to manage and oversee the rescue of 10 fishermen whose canoe overturned off Arossim beach, even as lifesavers and the lifesaving agency’s beach marshals managed to return three mobile phones to their rightful owners over the weekend at various coastal locations.

Arossim Beach: A fishing canoe carrying 10 fishermen overturned in the waters off Arrossim Beach in the wee hours of Monday. Another fishing boat in the vicinity assisted the fishermen, who safely transferred to the second vessel. As a precautionary measure, Drishti Marine deployed three jet skis from Colva, Velsao and Betalbatim beaches to the location. All 10 fishermen were found to be safe, while efforts to retrieve the overturned boat were underway.

Arambol Beach: During a routine patrol at Arambol Beach, lifesaver Manoj Parab found an expensive mobile phone that had been lost by one beachgoer the previous night. After tracing and verifying the owner, the phone was returned in the presence of Tourist Police personnel and a beach warden.

Calangute Beach: During routine patrolling at Calangute Beach, beach marshal Akash Kesarkar found an unattended mobile phone near the waterline. After verifying ownership, the phone was handed back to its owner. The Tourist Police were present during the handover.

Betalbatim Beach: While patrolling at Betalbatim Beach, Drishti Marine lifesaver captain Manjunath Girap found a mobile phone near the lifeguard tower. Shortly afterwards, he received a call from the owner, who was staying at a nearby beach resort. The phone was returned to the owner after verification by the Tourist Police and a beach warden.

Sea conditions along Goa’s coastline continue to remain dangerous during the monsoon, with rough seas, strong currents and gusty winds posing a serious risk to visitors. Swimming remains prohibited at all beaches across the state during this period. Drishti Marine has deployed more than 480 trained lifesavers and beach marshals across Goa’s beaches, waterfalls and four inland water bodies to assist visitors and respond to emergencies.
