Drishti Marine conducts annual refresher training for 480+ Lifesavers across Goa
~ The annual programme reinforces rescue, medical and operational skills of lifesavers while ensuring uninterrupted beach safety services.
~ Specialised training for jet ski and rescue boat operators strengthens monsoon emergency response capabilities.
Goa Khabar : With the monsoon season well underway, Drishti Marine has commenced its annual refresher and revalidation training programme for more than 480 lifesavers and around 70 beach marshals deployed across 54 beaches and four inland waterbodies in the state. Conducted from mid-June to mid-August in multiple batches, the mandatory programme is designed to strengthen operational readiness, enhance emergency response capabilities and ensure frontline personnel remain fully prepared for the demands of beach safety operations, while maintaining uninterrupted lifesaving services across Goa.
The yearly training programme is being conducted simultaneously at Morjim, Sinquerim, Majorda and Rajbagh, enabling personnel from North and South Goa to complete their annual revalidation efficiently. Designed to reinforce core lifesaving competencies, the programme combines intensive practical sessions with classroom-based learning covering first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), rescue techniques, swimming proficiency, physical fitness and medical response. Participants also attend expert-led sessions on topics such as marine animal strandings, mental resilience and other aspects relevant to professional lifesaving operations.
“This annual revalidation programme is essential to maintaining the highest standards of operational readiness across our beaches. It provides every lifesaver and beach marshal with an opportunity to reinforce critical rescue, medical response and operational skills while adapting to evolving challenges. By combining practical exercises with classroom instruction and specialised training, we ensure our personnel remain fully prepared to respond confidently and professionally to emergencies, particularly during the demanding monsoon season,” said Colonel Austin Collaco, General Manager, Operations, Drishti Marine.
Ahead of the refresher programme, Drishti Marine conducted a six-day Training of Trainers (TOT) course for its SRTA instructors. Experienced operational personnel also assist with practical sessions, sharing their field expertise in rescue techniques.
Alongside the annual refresher programme, Drishti Marine is conducting specialised revalidation courses for jet ski operators, Rescue Inflatable Boat (RIB) operators and personnel responsible for maintaining rescue vehicles. These programmes are designed to strengthen technical proficiency, improve rescue capabilities and ensure that specialised equipment remains deployment-ready throughout the year. Training is conducted in staggered batches to ensure adequate manpower remains available on Goa’s beaches at all times without affecting daily lifesaving operations.
The programme also places strong emphasis on preparing personnel for the rough sea conditions experienced during the monsoon. Lifesavers undergo practical exercises in identifying rip currents, conducting rescues in turbulent waters and operating rescue surfboards and rescue tubes in high surf. By exposing trainees to controlled challenging conditions, the annual revalidation programme equips them with the skills, confidence and experience required to respond swiftly and effectively when emergencies arise, reinforcing Drishti Marine’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of beach safety across Goa.
