Goa Khabar : The Indian government has summoned Meta’s global head of public policy and top executives following the controversial removal of a video posted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The video, originally shared as a selfie-style message addressing the nation’s youth on the issue of examination paper leaks, was briefly restricted on Facebook before being restored. Official sources indicated that the government views the incident as a serious matter and does not consider the issue settled.
According to Meta, the video was taken down due to a technical glitch involving its automated content filters. A spokesperson for the company issued an apology, clarifying that the content was removed in error and has since been restored across its platforms. However, sources within the government stated that Meta’s explanation is inadequate and called for deeper discussions, emphasizing that if automated systems are causing such errors, the social media giant must urgently upgrade its tools.
The controversy began after PM Modi uploaded his first direct selfie video on July 23 to connect with students and detail the government’s upcoming measures to combat paper leaks, including stricter legislation and fast-track courts. The restriction on Facebook sparked immediate pushback online, with BJP figures questioning Meta’s transparency, political neutrality, and content moderation practices. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is seeking detailed explanations regarding the automated moderation process to ensure similar incidents do not occur with official communications.
