Goa Khabar: The Congress Legislative Party (CLP) on Tuesday congratulated the people of Chimbel for their relentless 44-day agitation, which led to the government shifting the Unity Mall Project from a wetland area.
CLP leaders, including LoP Yuri Alemao, MLA Carlos Ferreira and MLA Altone D’Costa held meeting on Tuesday and discussed various issues, including forthcoming assembly session.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said it was a great example set by the people of Chimbel, showing that the government can be compelled to cancel projects brought against the people’s wishes.
“We have congratulated the people of Chimbel for showing the power of unity, which compelled the government to shift the Unity Mall Project from the wetland area. The government should introspect and stop its dadagiri and divisive tactics,” Alemao said.
He added that CLP members would visit people and learn about their difficulties.
“Through the ‘Avaz Tumcho, Sangat Amcho’ program, we are inviting people to share their suggestions on pressing issues facing their village, town, and state. We will engage with the people of Goa and raise their concerns in the Assembly session,” Alemao said.
Carlos Ferreira said Congress has always stood with the people and will work in the state’s interest. “We have discussed other issues affecting the state and will raise them unitedly in the assembly session,” he said.
The CLP members also discussed about the by-election of Ponda and meeting the Congress supporters from the constituency.
