Majhe Ghar Forms Distributed at Socorro Panchayat; Scheme to Provide Relief for Eligible Houses on Government Land

Goa Khabar: In a significant step towards strengthening housing security for eligible families, Majhe Ghar forms were distributed at the Socorro Panchayat with the Hon’ble Tourism Minister & MLA of Porvorim Constituency, Shri Rohan A Khaunte and in the presence of Sarpanch of Socorro Smt. Soniya Pednekar, Sarpanch of Penha-D Franca (PDF) Shri Swapnil Chodankar, PDF Zilla Panchayat Member Shri Sandeep Salgaonkar,  socorro ZP member Shri Amit Asnodkar, along with other government officials and representatives of local bodies. The initiative aims to facilitate the regularisation process for houses constructed on government land prior to 2014, in accordance with the applicable regulations and provisions of the scheme.

*Hon’ble Tourism Minister & MLA of Porvorim Constituency, Shri Rohan A Khaunte*, stated “The Majhe Ghar scheme is about restoring dignity and security to families who have built their homes over decades and deserve legal protection and a stable future. This is a people-centric initiative that reflects the Government’s commitment to inclusive development, where growth goes hand in hand with social justice. We are working in close coordination with panchayats, elected representatives and officials to ensure that eligible beneficiaries are able to complete the process smoothly and without hardship.”

The Minister highlighted that the Majhe Ghar scheme has been conceptualised to provide security and legal assurance to families who have been residing in self-constructed homes on government land for several years. The scheme seeks to address long-pending concerns of residents living in informal settlements by bringing them within a regulated framework, thereby enabling access to basic services and welfare benefits. Citizens were guided on documentation requirements, eligibility criteria and the step-by-step process for submitting applications, with an assurance that government officials and panchayat representatives will extend all necessary support to ensure timely completion of formalities.

He further reiterated that the scheme is a collaborative effort involving the Government, local self-governments and elected representatives, and called upon residents to come forward, submit their applications responsibly, and cooperate with authorities to enable transparent and timely implementation. The initiative forms part of the Government’s broader commitment to community welfare, social equity and grassroots development across Goa.
