Goa Khabar : Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Friday raised issue of degradation of tourism in Goa with events like Kamastura Christmas to Neo Tantra secret parties to be held in Arambol on 18th and 19th January 2026. He said that tourism department need to work along with Home and Cyber Cell to address issues.
He lamented that events are repeatedly marketed with spiritual, sacred and wellness labels, which are being used as covers for activities that clearly cross the line, damaging Goa’s reputation.
Alemao said that spiritual tourism is being misused. “Goa Tourism officially promotes yoga, wellness, retreats, and spiritual tourism. But what is happening on the ground is the exploitation of these labels for events that have nothing to do with spirituality, it is insult to local sensibilities,” he said.
“Goa is getting a bad name globally. Goa can’t afford to become a global joke, or a headline for sensationalism,” he said.
He said that Goa needs to move away from shock-value tourism and protect its cultural and social fabric.
“Tourism should bring respect and prosperity to Goa, not embarrassment. If we don’t draw the line now, others will draw it for us, and Goa will lose control of its own image,” he said.
