Goa Khabar : Minister for Tourism, Rohan Khaunte informed the House during the ongoing winter session of Goa Legislative Assembly that complaints related to garbage on beaches, received through the Beach Vigil App, are being addressed promptly, with waste being cleared within a two-hour timeframe.
Responding during Zero Hour to the question raised by MLA, Siolim constituency, Delilah Lobo, the Minister stated that agency have been instructed to focus on maintaining beach cleanliness and ensuring that efforts are sustained collectively. He emphasised that the approach must go beyond creating systems and responding intermittently, adding that the issues highlighted will be resolved with full departmental support.
Khaunte stated that cleaning and maintenance of beaches is an ongoing responsibility and that efforts are being made to address challenges that arise during peak tourism periods.
Clarifying the manpower aspect, the Minister noted that existing tenders do not mandate a fixed number of cleaning staff and assured the House that he would instruct the Director of the Department of Tourism to review the necessity and assess the requirement at the ground level.
During Zero Hour, MLA Delilah Lobo had highlighted the situation at Anjuna, Vagator and Chapora beaches, drawing attention to the need for adequate manpower and regular waste management to ensure cleanliness and maintain environmental standards.
